Common Silicone Cured Method

Common Silicone Cured Method

There are three types of curing methods used for silicone products used for baby feeding:

  1. Peroxide Curing: This method uses a peroxide-based catalyst to cure the silicone. Peroxide cured silicone is typically less expensive than platinum cured silicone and can be used for a wide range of applications.

  2. High-Temperature Vulcanization (HTV) Curing: This method involves curing the silicone at high temperatures using sulfur or other vulcanizing agents. HTV cured silicone is typically used for industrial applications, such as gaskets and seals.

  3. It is worth noting that, when it comes to baby feeding products, platinum cured silicone is the most recommended used curing method due to its purity and biocompatibility. This is particularly important for products that come into contact with food or a baby's mouth, as it reduces the risk of potential harm or irritation.

Platinum cured silicone is a type of silicone rubber that is cured using a platinum-based catalyst. It is often referred to as a "medical grade" silicone because of its purity and biocompatibility, making it suitable for use in medical and food processing applications.

Unlike other curing methods, platinum curing produces silicone with no by-products or residual by-products, making it an ideal choice for applications where purity is essential. Platinum cured silicone also offers excellent physical properties, such as high strength, flexibility, and resistance to temperature extremes, making it a popular choice in many industries.
